What is IP Geolocation?

IP Geolocation is the process of mapping an IP address or MAC address to the real-world geographic location of an internet-connected computing device. By analyzing huge databases provided by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and regional registries, this tool can determine the country, region, city, and timezone associated with an IP address.

What data is extracted?

  • Location: Country, Region, and City.
  • Provider: The ISP routing the connection.
  • Coordinates: Approximate Latitude & Longitude.
  • Timezone: Local UTC offset and timezone name.

Common Use Cases

  • Verifying if your VPN connection is working.
  • Investigating suspicious server logs or spam.
  • Troubleshooting localized network issues.
  • Determining the physical origin of an email.

How to Use the IP Lookup Tool

How it Works

  1. 1

    Enter a Target IP

To look up a different device or server, type any valid IPv4 (e.g., 8.8.8.8) or IPv6 address into the search bar and click 'Lookup'.
  3. 3

    Analyze the Data

Review the Information Grid to see the Country, Region, City, ISP, Timezone, and Coordinate data. The map will automatically recenter to the detected location.

Frequently Asked Questions

An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique identifier assigned to every device connected to the internet. Think of it like a mailing address—when you request a website, the server needs your IP address to know where to send the web page data back.
IPv4 is the older, standard format containing four sets of numbers (e.g., 192.168.1.1). Because the world ran out of IPv4 combinations, IPv6 was created. IPv6 uses a much longer alphanumeric format separated by colons to ensure we never run out of addresses.
It is highly accurate at the country and state/region level (usually 95-99%). At the city level, accuracy drops slightly depending on the Internet Service Provider. It will never provide a pinpoint GPS location of a specific house or street.
Yes. When you use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or a proxy server, your internet traffic is routed through a different server before reaching its destination. If you test your IP while using a VPN, this tool will show the location of the VPN server, not your actual location.
